Reasons for moving from a free blogging service to an installed WordPress blog

Hello. Until recently, I used a free blog service (Tistory). Then I recently installed a WordPress blog.

I would like to tell you briefly about why or why I started a WordPress blog.

The biggest reason I moved to WordPress was that I couldn't create the functions I wanted in a free service blog.

One of the things I wanted to do was to automatically translate texts. WordPress has served its purpose.

I thought it was a bit wasteful to pay monthly or yearly money for my hobby, so I used a free plugin and made some functions myself, and I am satisfied that it is applied quite well. We have selected 12 of the most spoken languages ​​in the world.

In fact, even if you use a free blog service, you can apply the translation function, but it is difficult to expect foreign inflows because you cannot create a unique address for the article. Therefore, it is not very useful for people like me who want to attract foreigners.

It doesn't feel bad to think that an environment where you can apply more freely whenever a desired function is created in the future.

Tyranny of service providers

The second reason was the reckless sanctions of the blog provider (Kakao). I had an embarrassing experience when my account was suspended for a week because the article was controversial.

I tried to appeal, but to no avail. Only a parrot-like reply came back saying that it is impossible to overturn a decision that has already been made.

It seems like a good opportunity for me. After that, I started looking for other ways more actively.

So I was able to write something like now. On the one hand, thank you.

Simple greed

Another reason was that I wanted to create my own space.

I thought it would be nicer if I set up an appropriate server, configure all the necessary environments to build a blog, and purchase and operate my own domain.

As a developer, it was something I could easily do, so there was no reason not to do it.

The domain name also reminded me of an expression I heard on the air, so I decided to use KissCuseMe. I thought it would be good to make a strong impression.

It was an expression from a question on a TV program where a male celebrity asked, ‘Do you know how to say I want to kiss you in English?’. I thought he was very sensible.

Self developement

Although this blog may seem very simple on the surface, it is actually a lot of technology applied.

I did not go through a general hosting company to make it entirely on my own.

First, a cluster of 4 cloud servers was built with Kubernetes, and the necessary environments such as WordPress, MariaDB, and Redis were built as images using Docker.

And the disk space is configured with NFS, and SSL certificate automatic distribution function is built for secure HTTPS communication.

Although it was possible to build enough without applying such difficult technology, it took a difficult path for service scalability and self-development.
